HOST--Helping Others, Setting Tables

St. George's recently completed a very successful pilot program in cooperation with A-SPAN to open our building two nights each week to our homeless neighbors as they eat their dinner. St. George's Vestry has approved a resolution to continue this program permanently, with an evaluation planned for March of 2012. At the suggestion of the volunteers, the Vestry also approved changing the name to Helping Others, Setting Tables, or HOST.

This program is providing St. George's with an excellent opportunity to feed God's people. HOST has provided hospitality to the homeless men and women who come inside, even if just for an hour to sit down while eating their meal or enjoy a cup of coffee. In the last 10 weeks, with the help of 21 different volunteers from the parish, the HOST program has served 308 people and provided them with coffee, a warm and dry place to sit and access to A-SPAN caseworkers.

If you're interested in volunteering for this program please contact the church office at info@saintgeorgeschurch.org or call 703-525-828

The Food Pantry’s purpose has remained the same since it first began in 1988: to provide food with dignity for those in need. It now has over 40 volunteers serving 10,000 meals a year.
