The
Buildings and Grounds (B&G) Committee has selected a project to improve and
enhance the existing shrubs and plants on both sides of the Nelson
Street entrance to St. George’s.
The committee
was fortunate to have a volunteer landscape architect design a plan that
would expose more of the attractive features of the entrance and at the
same time mask the two air conditioners. The plan was presented to the
B&G Committee and was approved. The vestry gave its blessing at its May
meeting and the work was done the week of
June 4.
The existing
shrubs and plants and one of the trees near Fairfax Drive were
removed. A mixture of Encore azaleas, Dragon Lady hollies, Hick’s yews,
and Knockout roses, together with creeping juniper, will bring more color
to the entrance. This project was underwritten by several anonymous
donors.
The B&G
committee will be undertaking several projects as part of the Centennial
Celebrations, including building new concrete steps in June at the rear
door of the Iglesia San José. I’ll let you know about other B&G
projects.
