Connections MinistryThe Connections Ministry exists to help people both find their place in St. George’s community and to discover and use their gifts in the world. GreetersSt. George’s parishioners greet newcomers before the service, make them feel welcome, invite them to coffee hour, and answer their questions. Ministry FairEach year (this year on September 7) the Connections Ministry coordinates a Ministry Fair at coffee hour at which all the different ministry areas can publicize their programs and recruit volunteers. Newcomer eventsSt. George’s holds events periodically to help newcomers meet and connect with others at St. George’s. Newcomer Dinners are scheduled for July 20, 2008, October 26, 2008, and March 22, 2009. Biker St. George’sSt. George’s has three parish-wide bicycle rides a year: the All Saints Ride on the first Saturday in November (November 1, 2008), the Resurrection Ride on the Saturday after Easter (April 18, 2009), and the Summer Solstice Ride on the longest day of the year (June 21, 2009). The Urban AbbeySt. George’s Urban Abbey is one way of being more intentionally spiritual. Abbey members use traditional contemplative practices to enhance their personal relationships with God and to enrich the spirituality in all they do. The Abbey is a community where members take on a rule of life and offer support and encouragement to each other as they pursue their spiritual journeys. We invite all people to share the experience and consider becoming part of the Abbey community. The Abbey community sponsors periodic parish-wide events that incorporate prayer, service, study, and fellowship. All are invited to attend these events. Additional information about the Abbey and its Rule of Life can be found on St. George’s Web site. 20s and 30s GroupThis group of Alexandria/Arlington Episcopal 20 and 30-year olds gathers for fun and fellowship at a local bar on the fourth Thursday of the month from 5:30-7:30PM. It also periodically holds special events, such as a game night and a tour of local wineries. All those who fall in this age group are welcome. |
