Children and Youth MinistryAt St. George’s, we help children find ways to know God, ask questions, and explore how they can live their faith in their lives. We encourage them to participate in the life of the community. We want them to feel that this is their church and their community and to know that they are indispensable parts of our life together. Nursery and Sunday SchoolSunday mornings are busy, lively times for children of all ages. Infants and toddlers play in the nursery from 8:45AM to 12:30 PM each Sunday; preschoolers and elementary-school age children sing songs and explore the Bible, sacraments and the church; and middle school and high school youth tackle issues that help them to understand how their faith makes a difference in their lives. Through Sunday School, children and youth learn in age-appropriate ways what it means to be a Christian and how we express our faith in the Episcopal tradition. Sunday School meets from September 14, 2008, through June 14, 2009, at 10:00–10:45 AM. Children and Youth CommitteeThe Children and Youth Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. It provides support for St. George’s ministries to children and youth, including Sunday School and the Episcopal Youth in Community (EYC), and also sponsors other child and youth related activities. All who are interested in working with or on behalf of our children and youth are welcome to join the meetings. Episcopal Youth in CommunitySt. George’s has EYC (youth) groups for middle and high school students which meet monthly on Sunday afternoon during the school year to share the goals of fun, fellowship, and service with their own age groups in Christian community. The Diocese of Virginia holds retreats at Shrine Mont in the Shenandoah Mountains for youth:
Sea ScoutsSt. George’s sponsors a Sea Scout troop and thus has its own “navy.” The troop is for girls and boys ages 14-20 to learn sailing and water and boating safety.
