Evangelism MinistryThe goal of St. George’s Evangelism Ministry is to help the congregation make connections with people who have not yet visited the parish so that they can discover Christ within the parish community. The types of activities being considered are: Types of activities: 1. Getting St. George’s (as a community) to be visible beyond its walls, not as PR or publicity, but as an incarnational community: a. Events where we participate with our neighbors (such as A Taste of Virginia Square on Arlington Neighborhood Day, on May 10, 2009). b. Participating as an identified community in a sponsored walk (not CROPWalk, which consists of just churches, but say a “help the homeless” walk, which includes non-church members of the community). c. Obtaining and staffing a table at the Arlington County Fair, perhaps in conjunction with the other Region 3 churches. d. The Murky Book Club, which meets at the Murky Coffee Shop. 2. Raising our “God-talk” quotient in our programs and our activities: a. Talking to Adult Ed about including more “faith-type” topics in its offerings (such as, “Is there a God?” “Who is Jesus?” and “what happens to us when we die?”). b. Talking to Outreach about how to emphasize to our Food Pantry workers the aspect that we feed hungry people as a way of sharing God (e.g., volunteers pray together for the day’s clients before they begin). c. Talking to Connections about emphasizing the Urban Abbey to newcomers as a way of connecting with others in the parish who name as important their intention to live their faith. d. Talking to Communications about doing a new color brochure to give to newcomers, one that emphasizes community and spirituality. e. Talking to Music about a “First Sunday” concert series next year that specifically connects the music offered with faith. I’m thinking of the concerts that the choirs usually perform, but scheduled on First Sundays.
