Fellowship Ministry

There are fellowship opportunities in many forms at St. George’s. Most activities are open to all; others are designed for specific groups of people. The Fellowship Committee meets once a month. Subgroups for specific activities meet according to their needs. Other ongoing fellowship activities are identified below.

Centennial celebrations

The St. George’s will conclude its 2008 year of centennial celebrations with a New Year’s Eve party at the church.

Coffee Hours

The congregation gathers in the parish hall for conversation and refreshment after all 9:00 and 11:00AM services on Sunday (10:00 AM service during the summer schedule, from June 22 through August 31, 2008). Coffee hour is an opportunity for all to experience fellowship and for newcomers to join the community.

Welcome Back Picnic

Each fall we welcome parishioners back in the fall with fun, games and food. This September 21, 2008, we will meet in Bluemont Park from 12:00-4:30 PM for food and fun. Fellowship will provide the meat, drinks, and paper goods. Everyone else should bring food to share.

Caroling at the Metro

Members of St. George’s have sung Christmas carols outside the Virginia Square Metro station next door to the church each year since the station opened over 25 years ago. This year we will sing and give away hot cider during the evening rush hour on Tuesday, December 16, 2008—join us at 5:30PM.

Chili Cook-off

St. Georgians know how to make chili. This is evidenced during the chili cook-off, to be held again this year on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at 6:00 PM. This third-annual event will allow everyone to enjoy a variety of chili recipes as well as good fellowship. Everyone is welcome.

Pancake supper

Our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be on February 24, 2009, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM for a hearty meal of pancakes, fruits, and sausage. This annual event highlights the beginning of Lent.

Men’s group

The St. George’s men’s group meets on the first Saturday of each month, September through June, from 8:00-9:30AM. (If the first Saturday falls on a holiday weekend, we meet on the second Saturday.) The men’s group provides light snacks, good company, and great conversation to discuss whatever is on your mind: spiritual or secular, personal, or global.

Shrine Mont Retreat

The parish’s annual retreat is held at Shrine Mont, the Diocese of Virginia’s retreat and conference center in the Shenandoah Mountains. The retreat is for all members and friends of St. George’s and it provides a great opportunity to get to know other members of St. George’s community. This year’s retreat will be April 24-26, 2009.

Time Out

This women’s group has no structured agenda except, as its name implies, to take time out from the stresses and pressures of everyday life. It meets at 7:30 AM on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, September through June, and in members’ homes during summer months.
