As in any community,
there are times when some of us could use a little help. Sometimes it’s a
crisis: a family member is in the hospital, or a loved one has died. Sometimes
it’s a joyous occasion, like the birth of a new baby. And for as long as St.
George’s has existed, our members have responded by providing love, prayers, and
practical assistance to fellow parishioners in times of need.
The Pastoral Care committee is launching a new ministry—or perhaps reviving
an old one—to help us care for our members in times of crisis. We aim to be up
and running by the end of September.
We are preparing a list of services that we could provide to our members. We
are building a bank of volunteers who are willing to provide services from time
to time. We’ll be asking every member of the parish to think about which ways
they might be willing to serve occasionally, and to turn in a form telling us
about it.
When a crisis arises, we’ll talk with the person or family in need to figure
out how we can help. Then we’ll then contact our list of volunteers and work
together to schedule the delivery of whatever services they need.
Caring for each other is an every-member ministry. We hope that every person
will volunteer to do what they can to show God’s love to our members in times of
need.
