St. George's Urban Abbey is a way of living - a relationship and commitment to God and to a community - through prayer, study, fellowship, and service. We invite all people to share this experience.
What is an Urban Abbey?
The Urban Abbey community is a “monastery without walls”; a group of people who seek to enhance their relationship with God by following a Benedictine-inspired rule of life with elements of prayer, study, fellowship, and service. Traditional Christian contemplative practices, retreats, and regular meetings for prayer, conversation, and fellowship support members’ spiritual journeys. While the Urban Abbey is associated with St. George’s, those who are not St. Georgians may join.

St. George's Urban Abbey Rule of Life
With the intention of drawing closer to God, I will with God’s help:
- Pray daily, guided by the Book of Common Prayer or another Christian format, and worship regularly in community;
- Study scripture, and pursue a specifically selected spiritual formation activity annually;
- Serve others, share the tasks of the Urban Abbey Community, and be mindful of God in my daily work; and
- Show fellowship with a welcoming heart, seeking Christ in everyone I meet, offering comfort and celebration.
