December 12th: Honey

Submitted by Elizabeth Seidell

Honey reminds me of a cup of tea. Whether it is a memory of tea with my mother or part of a nightly routine with my husband, a cup of tea can most definitely feel like the saying "a hug in a mug."

In the story in Exodus, God delivers the Israelites from Egyptian captivity, journeying towards the Promised Land "flowing of milk and honey." The journey was filled with hardships, resulting in at times faltering faith and questioning God's plan for them.

Today, looking back on the year's this advent season, I'm sure that many people didn’t expect 2020 to have as many hardships as we’ve seen, within our local communities and the world. While this year has given many people reasons to question God's plan for them, advent season is also a time to reflect on the moments of joy and love in the blessings that we’ve been given throughout the year.

Tests of faith happen everyday as we await our “normal” days again. And while they seem far away, there will be a time ahead of us where we can gather as a community, and fully embrace friends and loved ones in a warm hug. Maybe, for now though, we can be comforted by a cup of tea, with honey.
