December 21st: Mystery

Submitted by Katie DeMott

Mystery. What an apt word for 2020. The whole year has been full of mystery. Questions swirl around our heads like leaves being blown around our chilly, less-busy-than-usual streets. Concerns about COVID, health and safety of loved ones, racial injustice and violence, the future of our country, and so many other looming questions large and small seem to be ever present. Sometimes it is hard to quiet our brains and rest.

This Advent, I urge you to focus on a different mystery. A beautiful, unwavering mystery that comes to us year after year. Even this year. Especially this year. God sent His own son, to be born in a stable, to live as one of us in this crazy, chaotic mystery-filled world because He loves us. Each and every one of us. Jesus’ birth is the most wonderful and perfect mystery and the true reason for the season. Let God’s love wash over you and bring you peace today.
