A Summer of R's

These are exciting times at Saint Georges!  For even when we can’t be together physically, we continue our work in our community without missing a beat.  And in typical Saint George’s fashion, this summer is anything but slow.  From our virtual house churches and online ministries to our visioning process and Children and Youth renovation, to our search for a new Assistant Rector and the important work of racial reconciliation, we have been busy.  And if that isn’t enough, in June we saw the removal of our old organ and next week, after years of work, prayer, and preparation, Chamberlain construction will begin the second phase of renovations to our Nave.  This work will complete items from our 2016 renovation and prepare the nave and organ chamber for the arrival of our new organ in just 5 months.

Over the next two months, additional lighting will be added to the Nave, acoustical modification will be made in the ceiling and chancel walls, and the organ chamber will be gutted and rebuilt to protect our new instrument.  Exterior work will include a new roof on the organ chamber and architectural lighting for the Nave which will light our stained glass windows and building.  Once these renovations are complete, the Rose window will be refurbished, cleaned and fitted with a gutter to protect against future leaks. The Transfiguration window will be removed and shipped to Iowa for restoration at the Bovard stained glass studios.  The window should return in early 2021.

Details and information on our organ and window projects and how to give a gift can be found on our website and at www.saintgeorgeschurch.org/windows. We have about $150,000 left to raise to fund the entire project and are so thankful the incredible generosity of this community.

Renovation, removal, relaunch, refurbish, reconciliation, restoration, (rest?) and the list goes on for this summer of R’s.  Saint George’s IS a busy and active place where the Holy Spirit is truly at work and for that I know we all are thankful.  The work that our community is undertaking to build up the kingdom of God in this place is nothing short of…remarkable.

May we all rest in and be renewed by the all-embracing love of God and Christ Jesus.

Soli Deo Gloria!
Ben Keseley, Minister of Music
